A True Story for Young Readers – Coming June 22

I’m thrilled to announce the upcoming release of my newest book, Doris’s New Home, launching June 22!

This illustrated children’s book is based on the true story of my mother, Doris, who left Vienna with her own mother in 1938. Together, they escaped the growing threat of Nazi rule and made a new life in America.

With vintage-style artwork and age-appropriate storytelling, Doris’s New Home invites young readers (ages 6–11) to step into a powerful moment in Jewish history—through the eyes of a child. It’s a story of loss, bravery, and ultimately, hope.

This book has been a labor of love, inspired by my grandson Logan, who asked for a kid-friendly version of the family story behind my adult novel Nothing Really Bad Will Happen. It’s my hope that this new book opens up meaningful conversations between children, parents, and teachers about heritage, resilience, and compassion.

What to expect:

  • A beautifully illustrated true story
  • A child-centered family tree activity
  • A family recipe from Doris’s kitchen
  • Bonus content for grownups and educators

📅 Mark your calendar: June 22, 2025
🧳 Doris’s New Home will be available on Amazon in both paperback and Kindle formats. I’ll post the link here as soon as it’s live.

In the meantime, thank you for sharing in this journey—and for helping pass these stories on to the next generation.

Warmly,
Deborah Holman
