This morning’s writing session was slightly longer than yesterday’s and included a field trip! The focus today was on using setting and dialog to express emotion. After pulling on our “wellies” we trudged out to the side lawn of the the Temple House estate and explored the ruins of medieval castle associated with the Knights Templar that was destroyed in 1641.

I chose “betrayer” as my character. Hopefully, I did a good enough job of portraying the emotion that you will be able to identify it. Drop a comment at the end of the blog with your guess!
Here’s the little bit I wrote:
Lightning flashed through the narrow crevices as Roderick slammed his back against the cold, wet stone of the castle walls. His body shook with every crack of thunder. His lifted his head, the fire in his eyes reflecting the bolts from the sky. Roderick slid a hand to his belt, the thunderous booms concealing the clink of armor against armor. The silk purse. Still there. Heavy as a mill stone. He must leave before they found out.

By the way, Roderick is actually the owner’s name here at Temple House. It’s also the name of my Canadian brother, but that’s another story!
After our brains were warmed up from this exercise, we went on a real field trip to the Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery followed by lunch and coastal walk in the town of Sandhill.
You will have to wait some for those pics because after dinner we were treated to more than two hours of Irish music by Lock Na Liebe.
Apparently. you will also have to wait for the video because I can’t get the file to upload. But, you know the old saying: God things come to those who wait…
