Last week, after struggling for days to create this website, I contacted my friend Tara Rothman. Tara, a fellow member of JGSCT (Jewish Genealogical Society of Connecticut) has a website design and hosting company.
“I’m surprised you’re having difficulty,” she said. “You’ve created several websites. They look great and you certainly have a clear vision of what you want.”
“I think that’s the problem,” I lamented. I did have a vision for my author’s website. But I just could not make any of the WordPress templates do what I wanted.
“Maybe you just need to play with it a bit more,” Tara suggested helpfully. Bless her heart, she didn’t want to take money from me. She really thought I could figure it out for myself. Tara spent an entire hour on a Zoom call with me, walking me through the WordPress site and, before ending, encouraged me to keep trying.
I chose to go to bed.
The next morning, I took a deep breath and logged on to the WordPress site, ready to tackle the project again. I quickly developed all the individual pages I needed. “That was easy,” I thought, wondering exactly why it went so well.
Next I tackled the problem of an image that refused to be removed from the top of a page. Oh! An outline view! Never saw that before in the Editor section. Scrolling down I noted I could click the three dots to the right of the words “Featured Image.” I clicked on “delete.” Voila – image gone!
In quick succession, I managed to remove unwanted buttons, add desired links and resize screwy images.
Why was it now working? Why so easy? Well—the answerer was obvious—as I slept, I left my body and went to the Brain Store. My new Brain, Version 2.0 is working just fine. Too bad, like Microsoft products, I’ll be due for an update soon!
